As a social media manager, there are several questions that I frequently get. How often should I post on Instagram and Facebook is a common one. This is an easy one to answer, but the answer isn’t what most business owners want to hear. The answer…it depends. It depends on your followers, your content, and your bandwidth.
In March, Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram shared a Thread answering this very question. His Thread read:
📓 Interesting recent finding: people often worry about posting too often on Instagram because they sometimes see their followers decrease after they post. Turns out that though this is often true, people will see something you post and unfollow you, it turns out if you post frequently your follower count, on average, declines in the short term but grows faster in the long run.

On average, I have found most brands to have the most success posting once a day on Instagram. The first problem we see here…depending on the size of your business, you may not have the time to post this frequently. Secondly, some businesses are so worried about the frequency of posting on Instagram, that they post once a day, but the content is not serving an actual purpose. So, here are a few tips and tricks to maximize your precious time and get quality content on Instagram.
Tips to Increase How Often You Post to Instagram
- Create a content calendar that you can stick to. Make sure it is sustainable and achievable
- When you need a break from another work task, take a social media break. However, instead of scrolling, come up with 1-2 ideas for a post. Or better yet, take a selfie and post a “behind the scenes” image in the moment!
- Collect your top 10 frequently asked questions. Answer each one, now you have 10 posts!
- Breaking news in your industry? Record yourself giving a quick summary and post it as a reel.
- Use AI to generate social media ideas for your industry. Pick the ones that will resonate with your audience and create posts for those.
- Don’t want to use AI for ideas? No worries, pick a theme to post for every week. #MotivationMonday, #ThrowbackThursday, #FridayFunnies are a few ideas you can use. You can even create one specific to your industry
- Create a time-lapse of your day. Boom, you’ve got a reel ready to post.

Remember, social media is a marathon, not a sprint. It can take a few months for the algorithms to catch up to how great your content is. Be patient, and work at a level that is sustainable for your business. If you can only post twice a week on Instagram that’s fine. I will challenge you to try and up it to three times. And maybe in a month or so, four times. Eventually, you will get into a groove and you will find yourself posting once a day to Instagram!
